POSITION OVERVIEW:
The
Designer II, Equipment is part of a team of professionals that share an
appreciation and passion for outdoor adventure.
The Team is driven by a desire to design and create the best, most
innovative product in the world that addresses the needs of the consumer.
The
Designer II, Equipment works closely with the Senior Category Manager and the
Equipment Design and Development Team on all categories (Backpacks, Luggage,
Tents, Sleeping Bags and Accessories).
This Designer II, Equipment assists in initiating and interpreting new
product concepts to meet the needs of our consumers and strives to create
unique innovation that will keep our brands positioned as the technical leaders
for outdoor activities and adventure travel.
The Designer II, Equipment manages designs projects from initial design
direction to bulk production to ensure project goals are achieved and deadlines
are reached and works in accordance with established development processes and established
quality standards as well as manages aspects of the development process having
to do with design creation in order to develop and engineer solutions to
functional problems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Contributes to the development of product development strategies to meet the needs of our consumers.
+ Leads the innovation of features and benefit sets that enhance the usability of the product and drive consumer purchase.
+ Manages the design and development process from insights to the commercialization of the product within the parameters of each brand?s strategy.
+ Anticipates and validates the application of future trends, technologies and cultural drivers to expand and grow the assortment across all categories. Provides input to the Senior Category Manager for the development of annual and long range business plans based on these opportunities.
+ Accountable for building profitable, market right, consumer driven product that is in line with the department and company financial targets.
+ Builds productive relationships with factories, product development teams, mills and technology partners.
+ Ensures product design execution is within target costs and margin requirements.
+ Works with consumers, sales, marketing, business development, key accounts and athletes/brand ambassadors to build innovative new products that help our brands capture market share.
+ Researches the global marketplace and interprets consumer and market needs as they relate to the respective product category. This includes researching construction, materials, fabric, color, and design concepts, then collecting feedback from customers and brand ambassadors/athletes. Attends selected trade shows for market research and attends sales meetings to gain thorough understanding of customer and product requirements.
+ Accurately assesses the overall competitive market landscape to design brand appropriate equipment that reflects an understanding of the target consumer.
+ Assists in developing sales strategies and stories for product based on unique innovation, sellable features that will enhance marketing of the product.

Expected Travel: Up to 20% of the time, some travel may be
international
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
+ University or four-year college degree in Industrial Design or related field.
+ A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in various phases of product design.
+ Strong knowledge of backpack, sleeping bag, tent and other equipment construction, material construction, product testing and properties, costing, fabrics and materials.
+ Advanced knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign using a Mac computer.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite on a Mac; intermediate MS Excel and PowerPoint skills.
+ A thorough understanding of the design, development and merchandising process from inception through production.
+ Proactive and passionate approach to driving fresh, innovative thinking from product concept to final execution.
+ The ability to guide/collaborate among dynamic cross-functional teams to achieve business goals.
+ Strong presentation/speaking skills ? able to present and sell to all levels of the organization as well as the customer, communicating a clear and inspiring vision.
+ The ability to precisely communicate and negotiate time frames verbally and in writing in a multi-cultural environment.
+ Demonstrated collaboration, interpersonal influence, and teamwork skills (maintains effective communication and working relationships).
+ Results orientation while exhibiting great energy and resourcefulness.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Practical knowledge of other functions such as sourcing, production, sales, marketing and merchandising.
+ Experience designing equipment in the outdoor and travel industries.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
